My Faith Journey 2024: The Year of New Beginnings

This year I will Step Forward. Begin Again. Live Fully.

Every year begins with a quiet invitation from God—to move forward without fear, to release what has passed, and to open your heart to what He is creating now. This is not just another year; it is the beginning of something sacred. The same God who promised, “I am doing something new,” is still making paths in dry places and calling you to trust His process.

My Word for the Year is New Beginning. You can use the Pilgrim's Backpack to help you along the journey.

A new beginning is never still—it is movement, growth, and forward motion in faith. It is God’s gentle reminder that He is not finished with you; there is still more for you to walk into, discover, and become. So, you must Step Forward, Begin Again, and Live Fully because you were Made for More.

To step forward means to move in faith even when the outcome is unclear. You do not have to see the whole road; you only need to believe that God is already walking ahead of you. Every act of obedience becomes a declaration that you trust His plan more than your own comfort.

To begin again is to rest in mercy. God’s compassion meets you every morning, inviting you to start fresh without shame or striving. Beginning again is not weakness—it is courage wrapped in grace. It is saying, “Lord, I am still here, still willing, still Yours.”

To live fully is to let that grace breathe through everything you do. Fullness is not found in busy calendars or perfect plans; it is found in awareness—knowing you are held, guided, and loved by a faithful God. When you live fully, you live free.

You were made for more. Every step you take, every fresh start you embrace, and every moment you choose to live fully is a testament to God’s ongoing work in your life. He has not finished writing your story—He is still unfolding purpose in your path, beauty in your becoming, and grace in your growth. So keep moving forward in faith, trusting that what lies ahead will reveal the fullness of who He created you to be. Step forward, begin again, and live fully—because you were made for more.

So this year, let your faith take steps, let your heart start fresh, and let your life overflow with gratitude. You do not have to earn this beginning; you only need to receive it. The God who made you new will carry you through every moment to come—because you were made for more.

Here is how I’m walking that out this year:

Made for More: A Year of New Beginnings

This year’s reading journey, Made for More: A Year of New Beginnings, is shaped around one central truth: when God declares that He is doing something new, He invites you to grow into the person He always knew you could become. Each month carries a focused theme, a clear Scripture anchor, and a pathway for spiritual formation that builds from one month to the next. The plan guides you through the entire acronym of NEW BEGINNING, turning each letter into a month-long exploration of growth, faith, and renewal.

Every theme is intentional. Every verse is chosen to reinforce who you are becoming. Each month prepares the heart for the next, creating a year-long progression of purpose, healing, maturity, and transformation.

The Pilgrim’s Backpack

A spiritual companion designed to help you walk with grace, courage, persistence, and resilience as you step into the new beginning God has prepared for you. It carries the tools, truths, and reminders that keep your heart steady as you continue the work He placed in your hands and take each step with renewed faith and purpose.

In the Secret Place: Exploring the Promises of Psalm 91

“In the Secret Place” is a six-volume Bible reading journey through Psalm 91—God’s promise of refuge and protection. Each day offers one verse from Psalm 91 paired with a companion verse from the Psalms. Designed for reflection and spiritual renewal, this series invites you to dwell in the presence of the Most High, one verse at a time, finding comfort, courage, and truth in His Word.

Fresh Starts and Faithful Thanks

This year’s gratitude devotional, "Fresh Starts and Faithful Thanks," is my response to that very question. Rather than confining gratitude to the autumn season, it extends thanksgiving, praise, and worship throughout the entire year. Each two-month section highlights one of my Words of the Year, creating space to reflect on it, thank God for it, and mature through it.

The New Beginning Found in Christ’s Birth

The New Beginning Found in Christ’s Birth invites you on a journey through prophecy and fulfillment—seeing Christ clearly in Scripture as He was foretold, announced, confirmed, and fulfilled. Through each passage, you are reminded that God’s plan for salvation was never hidden; it was simply waiting for the perfect moment to be revealed.

31 Days of Prayer for School

This renewed my sense of purpose in embracing new beginnings. These prayers transformed how I approached the classroom, my writing, and my daily life. I prayed over students, lessons, and the work before me—and through those prayers, I found the courage to start fresh with faith and expectancy.

Mindfulness and the Christian Faith: Unlocking the Power of Philippians 4:8

"Mindfulness and the Christian Faith: Unlocking the Power of Philippians 4:8" invites you to train your thoughts toward what is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, and praiseworthy. Through this eight-part journey, you will discover how biblical mindfulness is not mere positive thinking but a sacred practice that steadies the heart and strengthens faith. Each reflection reveals how aligning your thoughts with God’s truth can renew your mind, deepen your relationship with Him, and fill your life with lasting peace and joy.

As this season unfolds, remember that every new beginning carries the fingerprints of God’s grace. You are not lost—you are being led. The same God who started this good work in you is still shaping, refining, and preparing you for what is next. Let go of what did not work, release the weight of old expectations, and trust that what is ahead is greater than what is behind.

You do not have to rush or strive. God’s timing is perfect, His plans are good, and His mercy meets you right where you are. Let His presence steady your steps, fill your heart, and renew your hope for the days to come.

Step forward. Begin again. Live fully. You were made for more.

My Faith Journey 2023: The Year of Gracefully Finishing

This is the year I commit to finish.

Not perfectly. Not rushed. But faithfully.

After choosing to live intentionally in 2021, embracing resilience in 2022, and surviving seasons that tried to scatter my focus, I knew that 2023 had to look different. I could not keep collecting assignments from God and leaving them undone. I could not keep dreaming without daring to cross the finish line.

So my word for the year is Finish. You can use the Finisher's Field Guide to help you.

Not just finishing to be finished—but finishing with grace. With passion. With persistence. With resilience. Not by my own strength alone, but by God's.

This word would not leave me alone. I kept brushing it off… thinking, “I do not have the capacity.” But the whisper in my spirit became louder: “You were not meant to carry everything. But you are meant to complete what I gave you.”

Here is how I’m walking that out this year:

This 2023 anchor plan keeps my feet moving and my spirit anchored. Each day’s reading reminds me that finishing is not just about speed—it is about staying faithful through resistance, restarts, and renewed focus.

The Finisher's Field Guide is available. It is a spiritual companion designed to help you walk with grace, passion, persistence, and resilience as you complete the work God placed in your hands.

Strength for the Soul – 92 Days of Encouragement from Psalms

This 3-month devotional plan through the Psalms is my reminder that I am not doing this alone. These verses became strength when I wanted to quit. Peace when I was anxious. Fuel when I was dry.

Grateful in Every Season – A Psalm-Led Journey of Thanks

Gratitude became my grounding. Through the ups and downs of this year, I kept returning to this practice: giving thanks not just when life was good, but even when it was stretching me. The Psalms led me—one verse at a time—into deeper gratitude in every season.

Advent Bible Reading Plan: Finishing the Promise

God’s faithfulness became my focus. From the first whispers of the Messiah to the cry of a newborn in the manger, I traced His steady hand through every promise. Each step of the story reminded me that what God begins, He will always bring to completion.

31 Days of Prayer for Schools – Back to School Prayer Journey

This re-centered me in my calling as an educator. These prayers shaped my posture in the classroom, in my writing, and in my personal life. I prayed over students, systems, and my own schedule—and in doing so, I found strength to finish what I start.

Happy 2022 (Faith Journey 2022: A Year of Resilience & Recovery)…

It is 2022.  I must say, 2021 was one of the hardest years I have had in a long while.  But, I made it through.  My faith journey was a little hard, and I did not always keep up with it like I wanted to.  That is okay.  As I tried to remind myself that I was reading my Bible and I was praying, so I was doing what I was supposed to do, so if I did not write out a Bible verse or write out a devotional, it was not bad.

I was struggling at work and at home.  I was having troubles at work and at home.  I had to give myself some grace.  I had to read my own blog post… “5 Keys to Successful Bible Journaling.”

I am excited about 2022. My theme for the year is Resilience (my Word of the Year), more aptly phrased Holy Grit (A Bold Walk in Resilience and Faith). And I have also decided to go through the Pauline Epistles in chronological order.  I am starting with Acts to get some background, and then going in order from Galatians to 2 Timothy.

I am looking forward to studying Paul and his writings.  He is probably the most prolific person of the New Testament after Jesus.

I will write about my journey.

Looking forward to 2022 and studying the Bible.

I will walk through the Letters written by the Apostle Paul.

I will also explore my Word of the Year.

I will Be Resilient on Purpose, and use The Resilience Kit
to
help me endure with grace, stand in faith, and rebuild with boldness.

I will pray for the school year.

Thanksgiving Reading Plan

And of course, we will read through the Psalms.

My Faith Journey 2021: Being Intentional after A Year of Chaos

This is the year I choose to slow down. After the chaos and unexpected upheaval of 2020, I realize that rushing is no longer serving me. The world is still unpredictable, but I am learning that I can be steady even in the midst of it all. I must be intentional—with my time, my thoughts, my faith, and my focus.

Intentional is not just a word I picked for the year. It is a call to live on purpose. To be present. To navigate each day with prayerful awareness, even if the path is not always clear.

I want to lean into God, not out of urgency, but out of discipline. I want to stop merely reacting and start responding with wisdom. I want to build a rhythm of renewing my mind, realigning with God's Word, and remembering that small, thoughtful steps can still lead to transformation.

So this year, I will choose to live on purpose. I will take deep breaths. I will write with clarity. I will pray with expectation. And I will listen—not just to what is loud, but to what is lasting.

To help me on this journey:

So this year, I created a rhythm to help guide me:

·       Intentionally Navigating My Life Purposefully – A yearlong monthly Bible Reading Plan anchored in Ephesians 5:15–17 and focused on one intentional word each month.

·       The Navigator Essentials - A set of daily spiritual rhythms rooted in identity, Scripture, and prayer to help you walk intentionally with God and live on purpose every day.

·        31 Days of Prayer for Schools – A back-to-school prayer journey with daily scriptures, prayers, and challenges beginning 31 days before the academic year starts.

·       Through the Psalms Reading Plan – A six-month devotional journey with one verse per day from each psalm, followed by a month of selected Psalm reflections.

·        Grateful on Purpose – A four-month Bible reading and journaling plan designed to help you live with daily gratitude and intentional focus from September to December.

·        Advent Bible Reading Plan: Living Intentionally in the Birth of Christ - An invitation to approach Advent with purpose, aligning heart and life with the hope, preparation, joy, and peace found in the story of Jesus’ birth.

These plans are simple, but meaningful. They help me slow down and stay aligned. They give me space to reflect, room to grow, and encouragement to keep going.

Join me if you would like to do so.

You Are Intentional. Live Like It Matters.

You are not behind. You are becoming. You are intentional. Walk like it.

My Faith Journey 2020: When Vision Speaks

This is the year (2020) my faith life will begin to shift. I will no longer settle for surface belief—I will begin to seek God with greater focus. Vision (my word of the year) is not just a word I choose for the year—it will become the lens through which I see everything.

When life grows uncertain, I can lean in. I can start to ask better questions. I can begin to write what I hear in prayer. I do not have to wait for clarity to come—I can pursue it through Scripture, journaling, and reflection. Thus, vision begins to speak through stillness. So, I can slow down to listen.

To help me on this journey:

Each page becomes an altar. Each verse becomes a direction. Each prompt becomes a mirror.

I am not trying to master the vision—I am learning to steward it.
I am not chasing perfection—I am choosing obedience.
I do not need to see the whole picture—I trust what God is showing now.

So I stay committed:

  • I will write what God reveals.

  • I will align with what the Spirit whispers.

  • I will walk forward with vision, not fear.

This is how I will live out 2020—pen in hand, heart open, eyes on what is eternal. Vision is speaking. And I am listening.
